Xiaomi to Join HTC With Its Own GoPro-Like Action Camera: Report

A report emerging from China suggests that Xiaomi is planning to enter the camera segment with a new product, which will likely be a GoPro-style action camera.

GizChina (via Mydrivers.com) reports that Xiaomi is working with a Shanghai-based company for the alleged GoPro-like device. The company reportedly plans to price its first action camera at as low as CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 10,000).

Some of the purported features of the device include a 138-degree wide angle lens, 4K video recording capability at 30fps, and full-HD video recording at 120fps. The site adds that the alleged action camera device from Xiaomi will support microSD card expansion (up to 128GB).

The Chinese company is rumoured to debut the camera before and of this year. However, we are yet to hear any official announcement regarding any action camera from Xiaomi.

GizChina has posted an image purported to be of the unannounced Xiaomi camera, and the small device visible is reminiscent of GoPro’s recently-launched HERO4 camera.

Last month, HTC joined the action camera bandwagon with the launch of its new GoPro-like camera dubbed RE, which the company called “a remarkable little camera.”

The RE camera device is compatible with both Android and iOS devices via the respective companion app.

The highlight of the RE device is the 16-megapixel sensor that can click or record with a 146-degree ultra-wide angle lens (f/2.8). The camera can record 1080p video at 30fps. The RE device is waterproof with IPX7 certification, while the waterproof cap enhances the RE’s rating to IPX8.

To power the device, there is an 820mAh battery claimed to be enough for clicking 1,200 photos or 1 hour 40 minutes continuous full-HD video recording. The RE camera action camera comes with 32MB ROM and 256MB of DDR RAM with microSD card support. For connectivity, there are Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and Micro-USB options.
